Location

The Erichsburg Castle is situated in the picturesque village of the same name in the borough of Dassel, Lower Saxony region. Firstly it was constructed in a swampy hollow; consequently, it is classified as a lowland castle. Previously the castle was protected by a wide moat and high fortification, and there was a settlement with villagers outside the ramparts.

There is a rich flora such as various bushes, trees, and vast and calm meadows, which perfectly match the Late Renaissance style of the castle. Also, you can stroll near a pond, fountains, and gorgeous sculptures in the park around the hotel.

History

The predecessor of the castle was the 13th-century Hunnesrück Castle which was ruined in 1521 by bombardment with heavy cannon from the Hatop hill. After it was destroyed Eric I with Henry the Younger of Wolfenbüttel captured the castle and built another for his son Eric II. During this time, it was used as an administrative seat for Eric I.

Then a lowland castle within the Principality of Calenberg was extended by Eric’s I master builder Paul Francke. Still, till the end of the 17th century, the original building was demolished due to its dilapidated state. During the 18-19th century, Erichsburg was financially supported by the administration of the village of Erichsburg.

In the 20th century, the Hanoverian State Church bought the castle and turned it into a theological seminary. In 1980, the state of Lower Saxony offered the entire property in Erichsburg for sale. Since then, Erichsburg has been privately owned; consequently, the renovations have started.

Reconstruction

During the reconstruction, a complete renovation of the property is going to be carried out. After the reconstruction, the ADN group plans to rent this property to organisations providing assisted care services for people in a comfortable, beautiful setting. The property will be available for purchase.
